How I became a Software Engineer in a London Fintech Back to Highschool. I had no idea what I was doing. I wasn't performing well, and I didn't know if uni was for me I ended up looking up "what jobs pay well" and comp sci came up and I decided to apply, I didn't really care if I got in Alevels : Maths, Art, WBQ, English ?? idk what I planned to do with these?? Well can't wait With no experience, some how I got in.. ? and I decided to go as I wanted to move out from my home town Acceptances unis: Cardiff, Loughborough, Manchester, Chester I had NEVER coded in my life Year 1 Fun but Worst acedemic year First year ... what was even going on? With no coding experience I thought I made the worst mistake.. It felt like everyone on my course had been coding since 5 years old and were geniuses Covid saved me this year as I was forced to figure it out, but I relied on course friends too much Year 2 Second year: I decided to stop procrastinating, let go of pride, and learn to code.. humbling I started completing coursework ALONE which was hard. Starting early is key!!! My development sky rocketed, I learnt how to actually code not just complete coursework. I continued working with them through final year, and was offered to return after uni as a graduate! 4th Year I was so motivated. End was in sight. I finally understood that you will never 'know it all' in this job and you need to be okay with that :) My goals were high, so I sacrificed a lot of parties, nights out, drinking..
