How did I become a software engineer
Hi, I'm Naya
3% of software engineers are black women
however this isn't what I went to school for
I studied finance accounting
and had jobs in tax, wealth management
but realized that those jobs just didn't make my heart sing
I decided to learn a new skill and landed on coding
I thought I'd use it for my job in finance
but I quickly fell in love with it
soon I was staying up until four in the morning
making the ugliest pages with HTML and CSS
and deciding that this was the career I wanted
I spent at least 60 hours a week learning how to code
and at the end of those six months
I got a job that gave me a $120,000 dollar offer package
so if you're looking for a sign
to hunker down and learn to code
