Here are six unique things you can make as a beginner in pottery that aren't just mugs or plates. Welcome to kiln haul episode 4. I recently finished a 30 day course where I learned to throw on the wheel. And here are some of the most unique functional pieces that I made. Piece 1 is this chip and dip bowl. I like to eat cherries out of this so I put the stems and pits here. The glaze is a little patchy but this is very functional. I love the concept so much that I made another one. I'm also planning on using this to eat dumplings. Imagine dumplings go here and the sauce goes here. No. 2 is a garlic grater. This is a very simple shallow bowl. All you have to do when you're trimming is create these little indents. Then when you need fresh garlic you can just grate it against here. I made the mistake of applying too thick of a coat of glaze so there's less texture here than I would like. But learn from my mistakes. Piece No. 3 is a candle warmer slash candle burning little house. So there's a hole up here and you can put a candle here. Maybe something on here that you want to warm up like another candle. Or I guess you could just let the candle burn. But it's a cute little house for the candle. Piece No. 4 is a lemon juicer. Can you believe that this is the first piece that I ever glazed. The glaze right here is surprisingly thin making this quite rough but it works really well for the purposes of juicing a lemon. I love making this little spout and a nice and even little handle. This is what the inside looks like. I did have a little hairline crack but I think it's fine. Idea 5 is a watering bell. The idea is that you can dip this into water, hold this so that the water stays there and release when you're ready to water a plant. Some of these holes are a little too big but it's still somewhat functional. It's also just really pretty. Look at that glaze. Idea 6 is a simple berry bowl. You can use this to wash and then eat anything that requires good rinsing like strawberries. There's also space here to leave stems. I hope these ideas sound cool to you.
