The reason drunk driving um is looked down upon in society and is generally accepted as something you should not do so much to the point that it's uh illegal to do so is not because drunk driving impairs you from driving properly. It's because of what comes from driving improperly and that's a really important part of the equation that people seem to be missing when they focus on how they have the right to make individual choices. You are forgetting how your individual choices impact other people. The reason driving while drunk is illegal in the United States is because other people use the public roads that people who are driving under the influence drive on and it is when other people are harmed that's when it becomes a public health issue because suddenly other people are being impacted by a silly decision that one person made. Same exact thing could be said about masking in public spaces. When you decide to not wear a mask in public spaces and therefore you are accepting the fact that you may transmit an airborne disease to other people, you were accepting that you were going to harm other people potentially in the same way that people who are driving drunk on public roads accept that, uh yeah, you know, I'm drunk but I'm still gonna go on the road and I don't really care that much about harming other people. They're drunk though, so at least they have an excuse to not care. Y'all are sober when you're on public transit unmasked. There's nothing impairing your faculties. You are just wholly saying f everyone, f all these elderly people, f the immunocompromised folks in my community, f workers who constantly have to be exposed to air quality that's really crappy making them more likely to catch airborne diseases. You're just saying F all of that because individual choices and it doesn't impair my faculties.
