You know what? I think the reason people who wear too much fragrance annoy me is because, well one, we're having to deal with this a lot more. People are going to say, no this was always a thing. No, it's happening a lot more. I'm someone who has lived in college dormitories, lived with roommates, worked in customer service. I've smelled it all, I've seen it all. And this is a problem that has been exacerbated in recent years because people are losing their sense of taste and smell because of repeat COVID infections. Since we found out this was a thing, 2020 and 60% of cases in 2021, people were losing their sense of smell. And I think the reason this bothers me so much, even as someone who does not have a disability, one of numerous disabilities that can lead to you having a fragrance allergy, and that fragrance allergy can make it very difficult for you to exist in both public and shared private spaces. The reason this bothers me is because I think I'm like reminded of another reason I do not want to get COVID and I do not want to get long COVID. Because if this already bothers me on a surface level, like it just irritates me because shit smells nasty and it, you know, is really annoying to the sinuses. Um, but you know, I'll survive, whatever. I've literally had to wear a mask in my own house right now because someone is over um working with my boyfriend and they reek. Um, and when I say they reek, I'm talking about fragrance. I'm not talking about body odor. This is a voluntary decision to wear too much freaking fragrance. But the reason it bothers me is because I'm like, oh my god, yet here's another way that if I were to come down with this debilitating chronic condition it might impact me in this way. And there are literally people who can't leave their house without going into a flare because people insist on wearing too much freaking fragrance. So yeah, I'm just thinking about the very real possibility that no matter how hard I try to not get COVID and try to avoid getting long COVID, I can still end up with long COVID. And there's a chance that it will lead to me being materially impacted by fragrances beyond just being annoyed about it. And people don't think about that when they leave the house, when they come into other people's houses, um when they go into public spaces doing that shit. All for what? Like at the end of the day, wearing fragrance is purely for yourself.
