Stop letting the bank pay you pennies. Here are three high interest savings accounts in Canada that I think don't waste your time. Coming in at number three is PC Financials money account. And the interest rate for this account is 2.2% and that is the base without you having to do anything promotional or, for example, deposit a check. It is unlimited transactions, the account is free, and you even get a physical bank card that you can use to access ATMs and take out money. And at number two is Saven Financial and this is an online institution that offers a base interest rate of 2.8% and again, that is without any catches, so you don't have to deposit your check in there monthly, you do not have to keep a certain amount of money in that account. However, the catch is this is an online only institution and the point of this account really is to save, so you do not get a physical card, you cannot pay bills from this account, you cannot withdraw money from the ATM, you can only transfer in or out either through e-transfer or by connecting the account to another account that you have at another banking institution. Coming in at number one is Neo Financial and their savings account has a base interest rate of 2.25% and it goes all the way up to 3% if you hold a minimum of $20,000 in the savings account. There are unlimited transactions and no transaction fees. You receive a money card that you can use to make in store purchases or withdraw from the ATM. And again, there are no conditions such as you have to deposit your paycheck monthly or have a minimum amount of money deposited in monthly to get those interest rates. Now some honorable mentions are Wealthsimple. Their account is currently sitting at 1.25% and although it is lower than others, if you already hold your investments with Wealthsimple, some people just prefer the simplicity of having their savings and investments in the same place and Wealthsimple is very user friendly. My high interest savings account is with Simplii Financial and that is because at the time they had the highest interest rate and although it was promotional, I have found that I have not gone more than one to two months without them extending that rate. Now just a reminder, interest rates are always subject to change. Just because an account has a rate of 2.5% today does not mean it will be 2.5% tomorrow. So we really have to ensure that we're doing our due diligence and looking at what these accounts and banking institutions have to offer before we give them our money.
