Their other posts in the index, biggest breakout first.
would you believe me if I told you this and this are the same person? Dayoung's rebrand in 2025 shocked everybody and we need to talk about it. Since debut Dayoung was the cute, loud one in Cosmic Girls. She was the variety queen, she's funny and she was even teased for looking like Shin Dong Yup more than a typical idol visual. Then Cosmic Girls was put on hiatus in 2022 and she was sort of forgotten by their label Starship Entertainment. Instead of just sitting in the dungeon, she disappears to LA. She starts networking, learning English and finding her own collaborators. She quietly builds everything by herself and even gets herself this iconic abs. Then on September 9th, 2025, Dayoung dropped her solo single album with a title track, Body. She had no expectations until something crazy happened. Body started climbing the melon charts which is the biggest chart in South Korea. It shot up 600 spots into the top 50 and even peaked inside the top ten. She scores her first solo music show win on the show and you guys need to watch her encore clip it moved me to tears. The song goes totally viral in Korea and people can't sing enough praises for Dayoung. They can feel her genuine passion to perform and to be on stage. Everyone could feel her earnestness. The comments are all, the comments are all, how is she sitting at the back for 9 years? She looks like a completely different person and you can see how happy she looks on stage. The only complaint that netizens had was that the song should have been released earlier in summer rather than in September. So from a marketing perspective, how did this rebrand hit so hard? First, the visual shift is just insane. Gone is the baby doll styling. Dayoung is now confident, tan and so Y2K coded. People always say she looks like Hyolyn now but honestly I feel like this image suits Dayoung so much and it feels like her. And if you look at the music video, the stunning, the performance stages, everything is choreography first, not glamour first so you're forced to look at Dayoung as a performer, not just for her face. In other words, she has the talent to back her up. Second, the song itself is just so good. Honestly, product is just everything. Body is simple, flirty and insanely replayable. It is literally a girly pop summer anthem. Netizens were saying how this song makes them feel so confident and that is exactly what a breakout solo song needs to do and I can totally see this song climbing up the melon charts every year during summer. Third, the narrative. Everyone roots for the underdog and Dayoung's comeback story is just so satisfying. This is a nine year old idol who was teased for her looks, forgotten by her label, took matter into her own hands, flew herself overseas and rebuild her image from the ground up. Nothing was truly handed over to her. It's an inspiring story to never give up and that hard work pays off. If she can do it, I can do it too. If you like K-pop and marketing, follow for more.
