I've done a few unhinged things in my career and one of them is how I negotiate raises and promotions. Every career coach is going to tell you that you should make a list of all your achievements, numbers, your outputs, reviews, all that kind of thing and put it together and bring in this perfect package for your boss to explain why you deserve a raise or a promotion. I personally have never done that. How I've gotten raises promotions is, and I wouldn't invite you to maybe do it in this job market, but I would just go to my boss's boss, cuz that's usually person I have control. And I just say, hey, I would really like X Y Z, whether it's the raise promotion, whatever, you would like a raise, well well well. Or I just don't think it makes sense for me to be here anymore. And then I just stare at them. And usually they'll like be like, oh well, I don't know if I can do that. Or I have to check with this person, get it approved. Plain and simple, be like, this is what I want. If I don't have this in a nice way. I walk. And I would then within usually a week or two, I get the razor with the promotion or whatever it is I asked for. One time it took a few months and then they just gave it to me out of nowhere. But if they tell you, no, or hey maybe like quarters down the line or whatever else. If it's really important to you and you know that you're good and you're a high performer, somebody else will give it to you. Just go just go somewhere else. Your main job is to look out for yourself. people should know you're good at your job. Well, before you go ask for raise. And if you have to sit there improve it to them, then you do not have the upper hand.
