I built a startup tracker. You all know I spend a lot of time tracking startup fundraises. Who is raising? Who are the investors? Who's investing in what? Which companies are getting traction? But the number one question I get: How do you actually find this information? Historically, it comes from a bunch of different places. TechCrunch, PitchBook, X, company announcements, and you basically have to piece everything together pretty manually. So instead I asked Perplexity Computer to build me an app. And the crazy part is, I didn't write a single line of code. Zero lines of code. I gave it the following prompt (will include in description below): "Research every AI startup that raised a Series A or B in the last 60 days. For each one, pull the amount raised, valuation if public, lead investor, and a one-sentence description of what they're building. Then build me an interactive website that visualizes where the money is flowing — by sector, stage, and top investors writing checks. Make it look like a premium VC research report." And unlike other chatbot systems that just give you an answer, it actually breaks the tasks into multi-step researching companies, compiling the data, writing code, and building the final interface. So I think of it much more like assigning a task and coming back to a finished deliverable. As you can see, it was able to build me a dashboard 15 minutes start to finish where I can track startup rounds, companies, funding amounts, valuation, sectors, and you can even see a deal timeline or filter by the best part is, unlike something like Claude Cowork, computer runs on the cloud, so it's actually able to update this a daily briefing every morning. When I log on, there's fresh data already there since Computer keeps working even when my laptop is closed. If you're an investor, founder, trying to understand where the market is going, this completely changes how you do competitive research. No more Googling and switching between 20 tabs. You just describe the outcome and Perplexity Computer builds the report.
