If you're building your own app, here's how to setup a new project from scratch in Claude Code. The biggest challenge is being comfortable in terminal, but it's easy once you know how to do it. From there, spend 5 minutes writing a solid PRD before touching any code. Drop your screenshots into Claude, tell it what you're building (native vs web, stack, database, monetization), and have it interview you before writing the doc. That one file becomes your North Star across every session. Then connect your Figma design system, point Claude Code at the PRD, and you're ready to build your prototype. Claude Code for beginners. Open terminal. What's terminal? It's an app that lets you talk to your computer and you will be doing a lot of talking. But first, ask Claude how to install Claude Code on terminal. Run the command that it gives you. Type CD and go to a fresh folder, then type Claude. Hey Claude. Now you might be thinking, what's this? What's that? And we'll get there, but first we need context. That can be some screenshots that you drop into the folder or designs that you make in Figma and send it through the MCP. Or you can start with a PRD file. What's a PRD? It's a product requirements document that will be Claude's North Star amongst all your sessions and it's super easy to make. Take those screenshots, drop them in Claude, then give it a breakdown of your project. Is this a native or web app? What language or framework are you using? Then ask it to ask you questions before making a PRD. It'll give you a markdown file which you'll download and put into the folder. What I used a design system? Perfect. Copy a link to the Figma section with all of your components. Back to terminal, ask Claude Code to update the PRD with a design system section where it can breakdown your components and where they can access it from Figma. Then also put the link to the section. Perfect. We're finally ready to Claude. So say to Claude Code, use this PRD file as a guide and this link from Figma to build out the core experience of my product. Wait a few minutes and wow, that's a prototype. Time to start refining.
