I bought my first home last year at the age of 29 and here the things they don't tell you about homeownership but I'm gonna tell you because I love you. Number one, rent is the most you'll pay every month. Mortgage is the least. Proceed accordingly. Number two, you will miss something in inspection. It is inevitable that there will be something that you didn't or couldn't catch during the home inspection. Don't beat yourself up about it. It's a rite of passage. It happens to all of us. You'll get 'em next time. Number three, you didn't just buy a house, okay? You bought appliances, trees, land, community, neighbors, systems, and they all need maintenance. Number four hurts, but at some point, someone's going to lie to you or already did lie to you. An agent, a lender, the seller, a contractor, the inspector. Probably all of them lied to you at a certain point. And guess what? It was all barely legal enough that you can't do anything about it, so it goes. Number five, you'll panic over nothing. You'll obsess and freak out about something that turns out to be nothing. And ignore something that becomes a very big problem. It's definitely water related. You will become handy...and not by choice. Hopefully before, but most likely as a result of paying an exorbitant amount of money for something that was a simple fix. You will then become an unwilling expert in something you previously never knew existed and certainly didn't care about. And the first time you fix something all by yourself, you will experience a level of pride that is unmatched and you will bask in it for weeks. And all of that being said, owning your own space is one of the most rewarding feelings ever. Let me know if you guys want part two because I could talk all day about this.
