A billionaire went on X to complain about $2 million and Elon Musk, Donald Trump Jr. and a bunch of other billionaires rushed to his defense. This is a wild story. If you don't know Bill Ackman, he's a hedge fund billionaire and one of the loudest voices in the MAGA business world. He's known for writing these massive thousand-word tweets about whatever's on a man literally dressed as one of his own tweets for Halloween. Anyway, this past weekend he wrote a 2400 word post about a severance dispute that he's in with his former employees. Here's what happened. Ackman has a family office called that manages his personal wealth. It's basically a small company of his personal finances so he can focus on his day job of running a hedge fund. Ackman says that TABLE hasn't been run very well over the years. Expenses ballooned and turnover was high. So we started to get concerned. Late last year, he sent his nephew in to figure out what was going on. His nephew was a recent Harvard grad who was working at a company of Ackman's in the United Kingdom. So the nephew starts meeting with employees at TABLE and he doesn't sees. He thought the place was bloated and needed new leadership. So eventually restructuring and lays off one third of the staff. Now here's where it gets messy. One of the employees who got laid off was an in-house lawyer named that's a fake name that Ackman used in his post. She was offered three months of severance. She said no and demanded $2 million, equal to two years of severance because she claims she had been subject to harassment and gender discrimination in the workplace. Her lawyer sent alleging that Ackman's nephew had made inappropriate gender-based comments to employees. According to the letter, he said things to employees like, quote, your body does not look like you have kids, and quote, tell me you are nowhere near 40. And quote, who carried your son? Who will carry your next child? Ackman says these comments have been context. He says his trying to build rapport at a and that other employees back up his version of still it seems Ronda wasn't the only one uncomfortable with her boss who was also a woman brought the comments to Ackman's attention. And at the time Ackman told to arrange workplace sensitivity training for the nephew. According to Ackman, this was ironic because apparently Ronda was the one in charge of HR compliance at TABLE. So she would have given the nephew that sensitivity training. So Ackman is basically saying if there was a hostile workplace environment, why didn't the person whose literal job it was to flag these things raise the alarm? Ackman then goes into why he thinks all of this he says Ronda is making over $1 million per year for what he describes as largely administrative legal work, filling out forms, overseeing outside lawyers and things like that. She only had to come into the office days a week and could work from anywhere during the summer. In his words, too easy, too good to be true job. Once his nephew started showing up and investigating, she probably saw the writing on started to build her case. And the timing Ackman says was perfect for Ackman's daughter had just had a massive brain hemorrhage in February for her life. He was working from a hospital room at the same time he was also of trying to take his company public. Negative publicity about gender discrimination, last thing that he wants. Ronda knew all of this because of her role at the family office. He goes on to say that whole industry of living by bringing fake gender race LGBTQ and other discrimination employment claims in order to extract large severance payments for terminated employees. And he says it needs to stop. He says that typically companies just settle these things quietly and the employee remains anonymous. There is no reputational cost even if the claim is bogus. But Ackman says he's not settling. He said, quote, I am going to fight this nonsense to the earth, said the billionaire. Class showed up fast to back Elon Musk responded saying, Agree. This bs has gone too far. Joe Lonsdale, a founder of Palantir said, Destroy them! Good work. And Donald Trump Jr. wrote, Agreed 💯💯💯 this nonsense has to stop. On the other hand, there were people who pushed some people pointed quotes from the if accurate aren't exactly innocent small talk. Others noted how we're only hearing one side and some questioned why a billionaire on social media to begin with. So what do you think?
