Chinese AI Kimi just had a big update and it's genuinely competing with Claude and ChatGPT now. But this is an open model. You could download it and run it yourself for free or pay to use it and it's a fraction of the price of western AI. So open models catching up with closed models like ChatGPT and Claude is a big deal and Kimi K2.6, this new version is a clear sign that the gap is seriously closing. But two features that stood out to me. Firstly, this Agent Swarms feature. So when you give Kimi a big complex job like building an entire website with all the content, the SEO, everything, it creates up to 300 AI agents and they work at the same time on different parts of the job talking to each other and it just manages itself. Secondly, it can run on its own for hours handling up to 4,000 individual tasks, apparently, in one job and to prove that the developers, Moonshot, had it rewrite an old piece of financial trading software and it just worked for 12 hours on its own with no human help and made the software nearly 3 times faster which is pretty cool. And all of this is in an open weight model which means anyone could download it, retrain it, build it, own it which is pretty disruptive for the American AI companies.
