The UAE just left OPEC. What is OPEC? Is this a big deal? What does it mean for oil in America? Do you know, the UAE just left OPEC. What is OPEC? Is this a big deal? Is it gonna impact oil? I think OPEC stands for the Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries. I don't know. So basically, it's a cartel. The oil world is an oligopoly that means there's a few players only that have the oil. So it's like an oligopoly and then within that oligopoly, OPEC is like a cartel. What OPEC does, if you're a member of OPEC, they control production, they control pricing. They'll say like, hey, we want prices per barrel of oil to be this much. And then what happens is oil, so each of you member countries can only produce so much because there's a supply and demand thing. They collude on pricing. So the UAE leaving OPEC, why? It's because they want to be a regional player, they're moving closer towards the West, us, the US, meaning in their allies of the US, and they're moving away from the cartel. They want to be able to sell more, especially after what's happening in Iran right now. The whole global geopolitical structure is gonna change over there. And it looks like they just want to move closer to us and be free of any price controls. So they can sell more oil, you know, and make more money basically. And because things are changing. But what the impact is is because OPEC is a cartel, as more cartel members leave, they have less control over the price. So the long-term, you know, academic view on this logically is, if they leave, maybe more of the people leave, means more supply coming into the market because there's more suppliers now not being controlled. So more oil, more supply, while prices could drop basically.
