There is one AI-powered surveillance camera. There is one AI-powered surveillance camera for every 3700 Americans. Flock Safety operates over 90,000 solar-powered, cellular-connected cameras. These cameras are deployed in over 6,000 communities across 49 states, with some reports noting partnerships with over 5,000 law enforcement agencies. Beware of Flock "safety" cameras! Especially since according to this lawmaker, they're creating a digital footprint of your entire life without a single warrant. Your morning commute to work, it's tracked. Dropping off your kids at their soccer practice, that's logged. So here's what I did. I pulled up a website called deflock.me, which maps every Flock camera in the country. Typed in my zip code and realized that they have cameras at intersections I drive through every single day. Everywhere you see color on this map, there is a Flock camera. Here's what nobody is telling you. Flock is not just a police tool. Your HOA can buy them. Lowe's has them in their parking lot. Schools are voting to install them. Even a church in Florida just put one on its perimeter. Every camera, no matter who installs it, feeds the same database. And that's why I had to be clear about how these cameras looked and where they were. And here's the more troubling part. The Institute for Justice found that 14 cops used this technology to stalk women that they were dating. In fact, a Kansas police chief tracked his ex more than 200 times. The Electronic Frontier Foundation found that 50 agencies used this technology to track protesters. 53 cities have successfully rejected Flock cameras. As of March 2026, 53 cities across 20 U.S. states have either deactivated or rejected the installation of Flock Safety license plate-reading cameras. This growing backlash is largely driven by privacy concerns, with 38 of these rejections occurring in the six months prior to March 2026. Maybe your city should be next.
