New Skills I've Been Learning as a Social Media Manager Building a Marketing Agency
As I grow in my career, I've realized social media management is not just about posting content.
It's about thinking, structuring, and making decisions that actually drive results.
These are some skills I've been intentionally learning
1. Prompt Engineering
I recently got a job offer from one of the companies I really admire, and one of the requirements for the role was being able to use AI tools effectively.
I use AI a lot but very well not so sure that made me pause and really pay attention to this skill.
So I've been learning how to give clear, structured instructions to AI tools so they actually produce useful results.
I'm starting to see that it's not about replacing creativity.
It's about knowing how to direct your ideas properly and get things done faster without losing quality.
2. Visual Storytelling
I work with a lot of fashion brands, and before we launch a new collection, I usually sit down to plan the content for pre-launch and post-launch.
This includes thinking through the video direction, how it should look, how it should feel, and how the message should come across.
That's when I realized this is more than just "making content look nice."
It's about helping people quickly understand the product, the vibe, and why it matters.
So I've been getting better at turning ideas into visuals that actually communicate clearly and help my clients sell better.
3. Collaboration
In 2026, influencer marketing has become one of the strongest ways brands get visibility and drive sales.
Over the past few years, I've worked with over 40 influencers across different industries, and that experience has really shown me how important collaboration is.
It's not just about reaching out.
It's about choosing the right influencers, communicating expectations clearly, drafting proper agreements, and making sure everything represents the brand well.
Because one wrong collaboration can affect how people see the brand.
So I've been learning how to manage these partnerships properly, from first contact to final delivery, without missing details or compromising quality.
4. Creative Thinking
I think what really makes one social media manager different from another is the ability to think differently.
It's easy to see what another brand has done and just repeat it.
But the real work is asking, "how can we do this in our own way?"
And honestly, it can be stressful. There are days you feel stuck or even question yourself.
But I've learned that creativity is something you build, not something you wait for.
So I've been pushing myself to think deeper, explore better ideas, and create content that actually stands out and solves real problems.
5. Event Planning & Coordination
I didn't think I would be interested in event planning, but I've realized I actually want to be the person behind the coordination of a pop-up.
Like I mentioned earlier, I work with a lot of fashion brands, and we're getting to the stage where events are becoming part of the brand experience.
I want to be the one thinking through the concept, the flow, and how everything comes together.
So I've started paying more attention to how brands create real-life experiences, from shoots to small events, and how those moments leave a lasting impression.
6. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
I've been learning SEO for a while now, but honestly, it still feels like I'm just starting.
Things keep changing, algorithms keep updating, but one thing is clear, people are searching for answers on google every single day.
So I'm focusing on how to create content that shows up when people are actively looking, not just when they're scrolling.
7. Market Research
One thing I've learned is you can't assume what your audience wants.
That mindset has pushed me into understanding buyer psychology more.
I've been paying closer attention to how people think, what they struggle with, and what they actually need.
Because when you truly understand your audience, creating content becomes easier and a lot more effective.
I'm not just trying to "manage pages" anymore.
I'm learning how to think like a strategist, so I can help brands grow, connect, and actually get results.
