If you want to fight capitalism you have to be comfortable being inconvenienced

Listen if you really want to start fighting capitalism, one thing you need to get comfortable with, right away, is being inconvenienced. Because capitalism thrives on convenience. Many examples I can go into. But one thing we can all start doing for free today is saying yes to our friends when they ask us for favors. A few years ago, I had this friend who asked me to help her move from one apartment to the other. And I got kind of angry with it, like, oh my god, all the times that I have moved in the past decade, I've just hired movers because it's not fun to move. It's not fun to carry heavy furniture downstairs that doesn't exactly fit. And it's physically exhausting, especially for people like me who are in their 30s and older. And what that made me realize is because I didn't feel like I had the agency to ask my friends for help. And my friend opened the door to realizing that, like, I can ask my community for help. I didn't have to do everything on my own. So now when my friends ask me to drive them to the airport at 6 AM, I say yes. So that they don't have to spend $40 on an Uber ride. And in the future, if I ever need a ride to the airport, I can ask my community as well. A lot of people throw around, everyone wants to be part of a community, but nobody wants to be a community member. And that makes sense because the system is designed to make us self-sufficient so that we are not in community with each other. Because then it's easier to keep us in line and doing what we're told to do.
