We are getting a Betty Boop movie starring Quinta Brunson, which is so cool because Betty Boop was originally based off of a black female singer. Her name was Esther Jones, who went by the stage name of Baby Esther. She is developing the project with Mark Fleischer, who is the actual grandson of the guy who drew the original design of Betty Boop. The plot is going to follow the origin and evolution of how Betty Boop was created through the eyes of her creator, Max Fleischer. Um, I think this is also so interesting for a multitude of reasons, because we didn't get the first talking movie until 1928, and I think Betty Boop debuted in 1930. So not only is there this element of her being based off of like a black woman, but it is also, I think she is also like the first female lead of a talking movie or show ever. I really hope they give this movie the Barbie treatment, where it can be silly and funny and a fashion movie, but also have this like very deep message where you learn something. But if Quinta is going to be involved with any of the writing or executive producing, I think it's going to be fantastic. This is such a dream cast. Like, she is Betty Boop.
