My base salary is $163,000, so let's see how I budget my bi-weekly paycheck as a 31-year-old living in New York City. Today's gross pay was $6,833. $1,025 gets taken out for my 401k, then $25 for my HSA, and $7 for my dental plan. $2,022 gets taken out for taxes, which hurts, but you get to live in New York City, so I'll pay for it. Then after all deductions, I'm left with $3,736 as my net pay. After that, $1,000 goes directly into my Fidelity brokerage account. I'll put $954 aside to pay off this month's credit card, and then transfer $1,300 to our joint account, which pays off our joint credit card. That leaves me with $482 that I get to do whatever I want with.
