Edit: read the caption. I obviously did NOT say this but it’s a parody to highlight some of the problems in medical training that clearly many people have opinions about. In some ways, this scene reminds me of medicine. Not necessarily because Nigel is right, but because it captures a tension that exists in a lot of demanding careers. For many of us, it’s easy to become so focused on what a position is demanding from us that we forget what the opportunity itself represents: the chance to learn from exceptional people, develop rare skills, and be part of something many others would give anything to experience. But, as the movie implies in the end, appreciating an opportunity and giving it your best effort doesn’t mean accepting problematic norms or losing your self-respect or dignity (I have not had this experience, but it happens). Still, not every difficult expectation is unfair, and not every criticism is abuse. And many of us learn firsthand that demanding professions require (and build) resilience, humility, and a willingness to be uncomfortable while you learn. Medicine isn’t Runway, obviously, but I do think this monologue captures a tension that many of us encounter or at least observe at some point. Any other interpretations of Nigel’s monologue? I think there’s actually a lot more to dissect there. #devilwearsprada #thedevilwearsprada #mirandapriestly #medicine #realtalk
