You should have at minimum have at least four different bank accounts

You should have at minimum have at least four different bank accounts to set yourself up financially for life. And just because they didn't teach us personal finance growing up, doesn't mean that that's a good excuse not to know this anymore. So here are the four bank accounts that you need and why you should have each one. Starting off with number one, your normal checkings account. So this is probably going to be like the most basic of banks, think like Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America. None of these banks are necessarily great and you don't want to keep a ton of money sitting in there. But it's like a hub for your money. It's a place to make transfers, it's a place to pay your bills, and probably get like your main credit cards too. And then two is a high yield savings account. Do not even bother getting a normal savings account because a high yield one is the same thing, there's zero risk of losing that money, but you actually earn an interest, like free money on your balance every single month. For these bank accounts, think like more online banks like Marcus, SoFi, Barclays, things like that. Three is a Roth IRA or at least some kind of retirement account. And you can open one of these on a platform like Charles Schwab or Vanguard. This is where you're investing, but tax free. However, you can't touch the rewards of your money until you're at least 59 and a half without penalty. And there's a limited amount that you can put in, but you can take that money out without penalty any time. Now I personally like to use a platform that I already use, so I use SoFi for my high yield savings account, so I just went ahead and used it for my brokerage. But if you use like Vanguard for example, for your Roth IRA, you can also use it for your brokerage. Just so that you're not having to open up four individual accounts. Now obviously it's totally fine if you don't have all four of these bank accounts open yet. Like we all start from zero. But if you want to take your finances seriously this year, go and order and open every single one of these accounts and you will literally set yourself up financially for the rest of your life.
