do NOT buy a new car until you do this

Okay, if you plan on buying a new car anytime soon, these are the things that I did that helped save me over $6,000 when I bought my back in February. So first things first, before you even walk into the dealership, you want to get pre-approved for a loan. You want to try to get the lowest interest rate possible. You can go to a credit union, your bank. You don't have to finance through the dealership. However, don't tell the dealership that you don't plan on doing finance through them or if you plan on paying cash because a lot of times the dealership makes the most money through financing. So if they know that you're not going to finance, they're going to be a lot less willing to like negotiate. And then when it comes time to actually talk numbers and talk price, only talk about the out-the-door price. Do not let them hit you with the monthly prices because they're going to make it seem like they can lower the monthly price and get you a better deal, but you're just going to be paying longer and like a ton more in interest. Honestly, the most important thing you can do though is negotiate. Like I don't care if you've never negotiated today in your life, like this is the place to negotiate. When they slide that first number in front of you, you need to ask, like, if you're okay with that number, and you're willing to walk away because a lot of times they're going to call you back. And give you the number that you want. Lastly, see if you can get cheaper car insurance. You should honestly do this whether or not you bought a new car or not because car insurance rates are notorious for going up every year. But be willing to switch. They literally have like free car insurance calculators where you just type in your car's make model year, you live, all the basic information, and it'll pull up the cheapest rate for you personally. And I feel like it's just good to know how much you're going to be paying in insurance monthly on top of the actual car payment.
