You don't need thousands of dollars to start investing. Even if you have 50 or 100 bucks, you can start putting that money to work for you. As a matter of fact, this is one of the better times to start investing because stocks have been down for a little bit, meaning that you can buy some of the best companies out there at a discount and I'm going to explain exactly how you can do that in the next 60 seconds. First you're going to open a Roth IRA and then a taxable brokerage account. You want to prioritize Roth IRA because it's a retirement account that does not tax you on the gains that you make from your investments. You can choose whatever brokerage out there like Fidelity, SoFi or Robinhood pick one and get started. Link your bank to the investment account you just open and then transfer the money over. Now it's time to pick your investment because you're a beginner, we're not going to do individual stocks because that requires some expertise and higher risk tolerance. Instead we're going to focus on exchange traded funds which allow you to invest your money across hundreds of companies at once. Here's a few examples. If you want something that's low risk even though that means lower returns. So you can buy an ETF like VTI that tracks the total US stock market. If you want balance risk, you can buy the 500 most valuable US companies in the form of IVV or if you want higher returns even though that means higher risk, you can invest in the Nasdaq 100 the biggest tech and growth companies with QQQ. So once you make your choice, buy fractional shares because you don't have enough to buy a full share yet and you can do this by simply clicking trade, buy and then changing the selection from shares to dollars and just typing in the $100 and submitting the order. The final step is to set up automatic recurring investments even if it's just 10 or $20 every month and as time goes on, add more ETFs to grow out your portfolio.
