My husband and I are trying to pay off our mortgage just as quick as possible and each month I come on and give monthly updates about how much I've paid down, how much extra principal we paid on the house. Um, and I just decided to look at the Chase My Home account because I've been talking with people in the comments about how it's saving interest and stuff. So I went to the Chase My Home account to see how much of a difference we've actually made from doing these extra payments. The goal was to pay the house off in five years. Um, I don't think we're gonna be able to do that. Probably less than 10 years. I don't think we could do it in five. Um, originally, this was a 30 year loan and I believe it started in April, May of 2025. We refinanced. We refinanced because we got an offer to refinance for free, um, with a reduced interest rate last year. I believe it was like April, May of last year. Um, so far, it says the extra amount that we've put on principal is $56,589.19. And the new payoff date is March 1st of 2048. So that means the months reduced is 87 months off of our loan. Um, so if you're thinking about it and you want to do it, I definitely recommend putting extra any extra money you make on the principal of your home because you are saving yourself a ton of money and interest. And I know a lot of people say if you have a really low interest rate to just put money in the market because you'll make more money than you'll be saving by paying off the house early. But for us, I just think that we'll feel safer and more comfortable if we don't have a mortgage at all and not having a bank and having no debt. Um, that's something we're more comfortable with than putting more money in the market. Um, not to say we don't put money in investment accounts. Um, but we are mainly focusing on being off the house as quick as possible. Um, I'm 29 this year, so we'll be somewhere around 35 and 40 when we pay off this house. And we'll still have plenty of time to invest. Um, so that's how much of a difference paying off my house early or putting extra money on the house has made.
