NEW Crayola Alcohol Markers First Impression + Review Crayola just dropped their very first line of alcohol markers. This is a part of their all grown up collection. So we're gonna test these out and we're gonna test four things. 1. Are they blendable? 2 what does the color payoff look like? 3 are they worth the price? And 4, can they rival Ohuhu? So let's get into it. Also, this video is not sponsored. I bought all of this with my own money. Starting off, I really do like the box. I think it's nice that they make it where you can actually use the box as a stand. How to set it up is right there. But I do think that is really nice. I did go ahead and I use the swatch cards that already came with it. And I swatched out all of the colours here. So the colours are really nice. You do really get 39 cause they give you a colourless blender. So let's go ahead and try these out. So I went ahead and I already put all the colours that I wanna use. I'm using one of the Barbie goes freebie. Now just do a little small comparison in the shape of the barrel. As you can see here that this one is more oval, this is more round. This is more like a. If you ever use a Copic. Ciao. This what this reminds me of. You do get the colour number on the top. Same thing with the Who? Who? The cap has the name on for Crayola. Like if you're using her pencil or a crayon, the body has the name. So we see Y G13 is key line. Let's go ahead and start colouring. Alright, so I started off with this orange colour for the sky. And then I went ahead and started blending in the second colour. Already we're doing good. Off to a good start. Blending nicely how I want my sky to look. This is where the problem started. Once I started blending that lighter colour, it starts eating away at the black line. I'll show you at the end what I'm talking about. But the way it looked was kind of crazy. I've never seen an alcohol marker react like this, where it starts eating away at the lines. Same thing happened with the pink flowers. When I layered the pink and the darker pink, it started to eat away at the black line. Then I just went on, moved forward and I did the body of our character here in this nice brown colour. I really like the shade of brown. super nice. And then went ahead and did some shadows on the character, which these brows did really nicely. Layering. These markers had no problem layering. I thought it was really nice. Very cutesy. As I said, I just finishing it up and add in some shadows under our little pencils. crayons that are on the little desk. And then lastly had to add some wood grain on the table. I love adding a little bit of wood grain with some fine liner. This is a Stabilo fine liner that I'm using in this. And then we're all done. It looks so cute. Now here's the issue. You see that it ate away at some of the black lines, which is a little crazy. Alright, so that is it for our test. So let's go ahead and answer those questions I talked to you about in the beginning. Number one, can they blend? Yes and no. Kinda only because as you all saw, it started to eat away at the black lines in the drawing when I'm using those lighter colors, which is something new for me. I don't have that issue with a Hulu, so I don't know what that's about. But as you can see, we did get some nice blendable moments in there. And they can layer, which is really nice when you want to do those shadows. So I really liked that. Number two, color payoff. I definitely need to have a good color payoff now. With any alcohol marker, that cap is never gonna match that color. So that's why I'm happy they actually provide some swatch cards so you can see what the true colours look like. No. 3. Are they worth a price? Now I paid $39.99 for a set of 40. If You guys have the 40 alcohol markers, Ohuhu, chisel tips, those are $25. But if you got a 48 pack of the Ohuhu brush and fine, cause this is also brush and fine. This is a 48 pack that's also $39.99. So do I feel like it's worth the price? I feel like yes. It's comparable to what's already out there in the market. It's not an exorbitant amount of money. If it was $60, I say no. But I feel like the price point is perfect. And number four, can these rival my Ohuhu? I'm gonna have to say no. Now do I feel like I'll definitely pick these up for smaller projects or on the go, Yeah, I do like how the colors worked. My only gripe and why I say they don't rival Ohuhu is the fact that there is inconsistency in the individual markers. What I mean by that is some markers had more of a flexible nib, some were a little bit more stiff, and some are super flexible. So I will say there's a little inconsistency in those nibs. And with that is another reason why I wouldn't want to always pick these up. Now 40 colors is a limited color palette. Also I have a big set of Ohuhu so any color I want. So that's another reason now that you offer bigger sets. I just got the 40 to start out with. They do have a bigger set. I think it's 120, uh, 120 set of alcohol markers. So I do think that would be great to pick up if you want to pay less, cause they're definitely not the price of a 320 set of Ohuhu. So I do think Crayola has done a good job with their price points for this new launch.
