Taylor Swift did not sue Olivia Rodrigo. So many people talked about this topic but do you know how suing works? You sue someone if they don't pay you up for something that you're asking for. So Taylor would have been like, yo, you owe me this much, otherwise I'm gonna sue you. Obviously, she didn't sue because Olivia's team went and gave her the royalties for 50% but the thing that I just realized is if they gave up 50%, that probably means that Taylor initially asked for more. And so she could have been like, give me 75% and then maybe Olivia's team was like, well, that's a bit much, but we'll give you 50%. So Taylor didn't "have to sue". Obviously this is just speculation, but in my case, as someone who has to negotiate a lot, you never ask for what you actually want, cause then the other team will negotiate for less. And then you find a "middle ground" middle ground being 50%.
