Hook

Get ready with me while I tell you why I couldn't sleep last night. If you're new here, I quit my job in investment banking and moved to the middle of the bush to live on an incredible wildlife reserve, which is incredible. But we've got some snake problems. So, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the lore, there's a 12-foot python that lives in my neighborhood. It travels through my house. And this weekend, my boss, who used to live in this neighborhood, was telling me how she used to know that it was in her room. And the tell was when you hear this noise in the roof because the roof is made of thatch. So if you hear this, the snake moving through the thatch and breaking it as it goes, because it's so big. So last night, I'm laying in my bed, minding my own business, when I hear, I swear to you, I hear this rustling. And I thought I heard it. So I'm like, oh my god, I'm going to have to get up and look for this snake. So I got out of bed, shining the flashlight around, because she said if the overhead lights were on, you have to turn the overhead lights off and shine up with the flashlight. So that's what we're doing, circa 2 AM. And I didn't see anything. I didn't see anything. So I guess it was just the geckos. I don't know. But needless to say, I did not sleep very well. And like, I don't think it's been in this house in a really long time. So I shouldn't be worried about it. But now that she's told me what to listen for, and I thought I heard it, I'm totally screwed because anytime I hear that noise, I'm going to be like, that's the python.
