Investment Baker quit her Goldman Sachs job to build a dessert empire. Allison Sheehan found her TikTok videos. Allison is a 27-year-old content creator who makes baking videos under the name the Investment Baker, with notable clientele like Gigi Hadid, Valentino, and Goop. I talked to Allison about her journey as the Investment Baker. It all started in 2022, when she was working on Goldman Sachs's wealth management team, while also running her baking accounts on the side. However, just one year into posting as the Investment Baker, she was pulled by Goldman Sachs's compliance team to talk about her accounts. And they were not happy. Although Allison never disclosed where she was working while running the accounts, Goldman felt that by using the word investment in her social media handles, people could connect the dots. So they ordered her to take down all of her posts, and she did. But it wouldn't take long for Allison to unarchive all of her social media posts and put them back up on the internet. At the time, she was applying to grad school. However, she needed her accounts back to show her entrepreneurial track record. Three months later, Goldman's compliance team comes knocking again, asking her to take her posts down. But this time she says no and decides to leave her Wall Street job behind. After she quit her Goldman Sachs job, Allison continued to keep growing her Investment Baker social media accounts, this time ramping up production by 300%, producing 10 to 30 cakes a week. Towards the end of my conversation with Allison, we spoke about what the future of her brand looks like. And she told me that she's weighing out multiple options, including opening up a brick-and-mortar store or starting a CPG line.
