Hook

I've been conducting a lot of interviews lately. And I've been seeing a lot of senior candidates, let's say 10, 15 plus years of experience. And the thing is that some of them really knock it out of the park technically, but they have been rejected because of a personality and culture fit. I've seen this happen with two candidates I've interviewed now where they're very senior, they knock it out of the park technically, but we actually rejected them because of the personality and culture fit. And something I'm noticing is a bit of an arrogance, a bit of a resistance to answering my questions. Kind of a sense of like, why are you asking me that? That's a dumb question. Or if I ask like, what about this? And they're like, no, that's not going to work for XYZ. And it's like, yeah, I might know that it doesn't work and I might be asking you to get more signal to know if you know it doesn't work. But some of these candidates are very resistant or kind of have this sense that they're like above it. And it's like, you might know that you're very senior and very technical and competent, but I don't. So I got to ask these questions to get that signal. To sign that you might be kind of difficult to work with. So if you're a senior candidate, or a candidate of any level, be mindful that even if you pass technically, you can very well get rejected because of your personality or culture fit.
