From trembling in fear to howls of pure joy🥹🤍 One of the most incredible transformations we’ve ever witnessed. We named him Captain because we wanted him to know that he was in charge of his life and no longer at the mercy of the street. As the captain, he could steer his life in whatever direction he wanted and become whoever he wanted to be. But he was so traumatized, so terrified, and so shut down. For days, he wouldn’t eat. He wouldn’t drink. He wouldn’t move. We started treating his mange. We removed the ticks. We gave him food. A soft bed. Love. Patience. But Captain just trembled and hid. At one point, I started questioning everything. Did we do the right thing by rescuing him? Was he ever going to feel comfortable with us? I felt defeated. So after trying everything else, I crawled underneath our truck with him. I kept trying to help him feel safe in our world but what if, instead, I met him in his. Street dogs often seek shelter beneath parked cars. It’s one of the few places where they can disappear from the world and feel protected.
