THREE WEEKS AGO,

Three weeks ago, we met a paralyzed street dog who dragged herself toward us, begging for love and begging for a chance. Although we knew it would be a challenge, we rescued her. You come with us because there was absolutely no way we could beat this precious girl behind. At first, we didn't know the severity of her injury, so we had hope that we could heal her. But after getting her X-rays and discovering her spine is completely severed. We realized she would never walk on all four legs again. We got her wheelchair and it took a bit for her to find her confidence. But once she did, Birdie was flying down the beach with the biggest smile on her face. Then she discovered swimming. And we quickly realized when she's weightless in the water. That's when she feels the most free. Birdie loves life so much, but the body she's living in puts her at risk. This girl's beautiful journey has made millions of people fall in love with her. And I know all of us want the exact same thing for Bertie. The happiest, healthiest, most beautiful, fulfilling life possible. And after contemplating every option, we've decided to move forward with double amputation. And that surgery is tomorrow. Tomorrow is the biggest day of Bertie's journey so far. Tomorrow is surgery day.
