Ageism proofing your resume works, even though you usually have to show your age at one point in the job application. I have a theory of why ageism proofing your resume works, even though you still have to share your age when you apply for a job. I've seen this happen countless times now with my clients who are like over 40, 45, that aren't hearing back for jobs they're qualified for. But when they make a few simple resume updates, they all of a sudden start getting responses. Once your age is no longer a distraction on your resume, people focus more on your qualifications and don't even think about your age. So a classic example is a summary right at the top of your resume that says something like, with over 20 years of B2B sales experience. The first thing that a recruiter or hiring manager thinking about that is your age. And once they start doing that, all these biases come up like, is this person going to have issues with adapting to our new processes or they gonna use our new tools? Which is obviously completely ridiculous because someone with over 20 years has had to adapt to changes throughout their career. The point being, if you think ageism is hurting your job search, just take a few minutes to update your resume. And if you want to save time, I also have a specific ageism proof resume template it's in my bio.
