I'm a recruiter and I only need 7 seconds to read your resume. And I can prove it. The truth is, for most jobs, half the people who apply aren't even close. I'm talking about nurses applying for a senior product manager role, or recent college grads applying for a VP to three seconds, 50% of the resumes are out. After that, I'm looking for general relevancy. Things don't have to be exact, but they need to be in the ballpark. If the description says I need someone who managed a technical team and you managed investment bankers, you're probably getting eliminated here. And by the way, if you like getting information from somebody who's an inside of the industry and not just what they read somewhere, be sure to follow me because I want to help you understand corporate hiring better. And now I'm 4 or 5 seconds in and I've eliminated a lot of resumes for a good reason. So now I'm looking for recent signals that show you can do this job. Maybe that means the right text stack if this is a technical role, or maybe it means recent sales if this is a sales role. But the thing is, these things pop out quickly when a recruiter knows what they're looking for. 7 seconds doesn't mean that's the only time the resume gets. And in that time, I can get people into three general categories. And if you want proof that this works, go watch this video where I show you that I can do it. And tell me if I missed on any of those resumes.
