If your resume still has 20 to 30 years of experience on it, I need you to know what happens on the other end of that submit. LinkedIn Recruiter has a filter called Years of Experience and a recruiter can set an exact range in that filter. Say, five to seven years. And it's only gonna pull up candidates who fall inside of it. If your profile has even one more year of experience on it, you won't even come up in the search results. That is a person typing a number into a box because a job only required a certain number of years of experience to do the job. Does it make you unqualified? No. Does it make you invisible? Absolutely. And it's not just LinkedIn. Indeed's own career advice tells people to cut roles that are older than 15 years because that history can distract an employer or introduce age bias. Yes, the platform itself is telling you that your years of experience are a liability. And Resume.com pulled a thousand hiring managers in 2024 and nearly half of them admitted that LinkedIn plays a role in age bias and nearly a third of them said the same about Indeed. Everyone is worried about AI filtering out job applications, but you need to know that humans have been doing this manually for years and the AI is just learning from us. So what I tell people now is take your resume down to 10 years. And it's not because your first 20 didn't matter or that experience isn't important. It's because the systems that were built to find you were never built to see that far back. And because we have a lot of hiring managers out there who have age bias. AI did not invent this, but they sure did learn from us anyway. Anyway, like and follow. If you want to learn more about how to get around the systems that are designed to keep you out of them, share this with anyone who's too experienced to get a call back. We'll be here talking about it.
