I just made this dealership lose over $5,000 on the deal that he did. Here's how and why. Started with the customer blowing out of the finance office and I caught him at the door. What's that I see? Customers for Captain's save a deal. Booking. Look, if you've ever been in a dealership, you've ever worked at a dealership, you know a pissed off customer just trotted out the door. Immediately when I saw it, I got up, introduced myself, tried to figure out exactly what happened. Asked him what was going on, what happened, why they're leaving. They gave me the whole story. Basically, sales manager agreed on a price, went to the finance office, and then all they did was request a special interest rate. The finance manager calls down to the sales manager and the sales manager says, no, that's not what we agreed to. We agreed to a bottom line of that based on him taking the standard rate. The finance manager told that customer that. The customer left. I talked to the customer, says, I never once talked to this guy about a rate. All I cared about was the bottom line and your advertising, so you're going to do it or not? I can't believe that happened. I'm just glad that I could catch you before you left out of here. My name is Captain Save a Deal. And I'm going to make it right. Follow me. Time out. As a car guy, I've been there. I've worked deals. Obviously, this guy was a negotiator. Definitely knew what he was doing. He negotiated a price down so far that it was really a pretty difficult deal for a very high volume store to say yes to. Frankly, I'm pissed off that it didn't even happen. Not because of of losing money, but because of the lack of communication and why it happened. Customers, this has got to be a little frustrating and I completely understand. As a general manager, I've got to look at everything from a different lens. I've got to see the customer's point of view, to see my sales manager's point of view. And most importantly, I've got to make sure that I protect my owner and his point of view. Is the customer right or is the sales manager right? When dealers negotiate a deal with a client, it is imperative that you over communicate what you're doing and how you're doing it. You've got to be as transparent as possible. Unfortunately, for a lot of dealers, it's common practice to not be transparent. Frankly, the dealer has to be smarter. In today's day and age, customers are very well educated. They know what the special interest rates are. You can't just slide by your know, cause you maybe turn a little bit more profit. At worst, you lose all of your credibility. The person gets home, finds out that there's a better rate. They think they got screwed. They think they got a bad deal. All you had to do was be transparent with them. Let them know how you're going to be out. Hey, be out. What are your thoughts? Did I do the right thing or not? Guys, this is a common thing that happens all the time in the dealership because of lack of communication and lack of transparency. Here, make the carologist connect buyers and dealers together.
