Imagine a bunch of genius strangers from around the world come together to build an insanely high quality, secure piece of software and then they release all the source code for free. For free. It's like if Master Chef had a recipe for lasagna and instead of keeping it secret, just released it for the whole world to make better lasagna. Anyone can read the code. Anyone can build the software for free. And if you don't like the way the software functions, you can just make that change to the codebase yourself. I want to get involved. How many open source projects are out there? Almost everything runs on open source. Are you serious? The most popular programming languages, web servers, databases, WordPress, Wikipedia, and Android, almost everything is open source. These can't be as good as like Google or Facebook, right? You don't even understand. They're even better. How is that possible? A lot of those companies actually even pay their developers to contribute to these open source projects because they're so important. And because these codebases are open source, they're oftentimes way more secure because there's so many more eyeballs on the project.
