THE UGC TRAP NOBODY WARNED ME ABOUT Some UGC traps are obvious. These three aren't. My name is Phil, I'm your UGC bro. I have found massive success doing this UGC thing. This UGC thing. These three traps that nobody is really talking about because they're not as fun to talk about as getting brand deals. The first UGC trap to look out for is platforms. I've spent a lot of time talking about the different platforms that I used when I was starting out and there are good ones out there. However, even the best ones out there are not the best way to do UGC. When you sign up for a platform, most of the time, you are pretty much signing away your rights as a UGC creator. You have to adhere to the terms that that platform is native to that platform. Most of the times, it's a blanket structure for every creator. That means you don't have much say in your rates. Don't have much say in your usage rights. That means basically the terms that are set on that platform are terms that you have to agree with, whether they're fair or not. Now, I know the obvious ones out there are very low paying, targeted towards beginners. And even those can serve a purpose for your first few weeks in UGC. Get some confidence, build some confidence, get some jobs booked, keep moving. However, even the ones that seem good, that have recognizable brand names with briefs, are still pretty low hanging fruit compared to it you would have gotten that deal as an inbound. Say you book a big brand for a few videos for $1,000 for the job. It's awesome to add that to your portfolio, get the brand recognition of working with this specific brand. And $1,000 is pretty legit. However, if that same opportunity would have come through on your email, which would have given you the opportunity to negotiate, to set your own rates, to set the usage all those things, you probably would have taken that $1,000 job and made it into a $1,500 job, a $2,000 job, a $2,500 job. And I get not everybody's getting inbounds, and I get not everybody's getting inbounds all the time. So platforms are not a bad way to start. If that's your sole way of making money, I'd encourage you to figure out what looks like to build up a personal brand so that inbounds are gonna be coming in more often, which gives me more opportunity to make more money. Don't fall into these traps. They're so easy to do. Let's go make some beautiful things.
