People who have learning disabilities are not dumb. Their intellectual capacity and their capability to look up meanings to words are not lesser than those without learning disabilities. There’s a lot of shame associated with learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia, and to say you think they need “easier words” in books is so backhanded and insulting. The people who have learning disabilities severe enough to not have the capability to look up the meaning of a word in the dictionary are often not reading books, and when they do, they are designed specifically for their comprehension levels. Literacy is a skill set and you can not craft that skill if you are not challenging yourself, you are not challenging yourself if you are not reading hard or big words you don’t know. #literacy #literacymatters #BookTok #vocabulary #reading
