How people apologize says a lot about them. It says a lot about their upbringing in childhood or it says a lot about their emotional regulation as an adult. And so something I'm going to encourage you to do is learn how to apologize. Learn how to apologize correctly. That includes the when, that includes the why, that includes the to who, that includes the degree. All of those things are important. And the tone in it, the tone in it also matters because some people profusely and over apologize, which to me, personally, I always find to kind of just undermine the apology. I get it, I heard it the first time. You don't need to repeat it multiple times. Oftentimes though, you'll see people who had to do that as a kid in order to maybe evade punishment will do that. And then you have people who will apologize when an apology isn't necessary. And it happens all the time. And I always correct my husband or even my younger sister. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm this. You actually don't need to be sorry about that. Why would you need to give me an apology for something that you are or not doing that has nothing to do with me and my personal life. It's okay that you can't make movie night. You don't have to say you're sorry to me. But these people who are constantly saying I'm sorry even when it's not necessary. And then you have people who, when they apologize, it's never really an actual apology. They're sorry that you feel that way. I'm sorry that you took what I said that way. I'm sorry that you feel that way. It's never really an actual apology. They're sorry that you feel that way. I'm sorry that you took what I said that way. I'm sorry that you feel that way. You don't need to justify or make excuses. You don't have to blame me for why I maybe feel some type of way about what you did, even though what you did was objectively wrong. You don't need to over apologize and you don't need to offer me an apology when it's not necessary. And some of these things are really small and arbitrary and don't actually affect the relationship negatively. But the people who are, you know, passive aggressive or never apologize do. But I think regardless of which side of the spectrum you're on, it's still a skill set to learn. If you want to develop a good and healthy relationship because like I said, learning to not be defensive, learning to accept critique and accountability from those who love you, learning how to apologize, learning how to communicate properly with those that you love and care about. It's a fundamental essence and part of healthy relationships.
