If you own a gallbladder or you treat patients who own gallbladders, I need you to listen to this informative PSA from an ultrasound tech of 14 years. Who cares so much that people get diagnostic imaging. This is a plump NP O, meaning hasn't eaten anything in the last, I don't know, six to eight hours. Gallbladder looks like a pepperoni. That black hole is bile inside of the gallbladder. Gallbladder is about the size of your thumb, okay? It sits right here and it fills with bile. When you eat something and it has a lot of fat in it, your gallbladder contracts. It squirts that bile out. Then your gallbladder goes from looking like this and being easily identifiable, then it looks like this. Where's the gallbladder in that photo? That's what I'm trying to get at. If we are going to assess a gallbladder, they have to be NPO. You cannot tell me just do it. Just do the exam. As a patient, you can't get Starbucks on your way to your abdominal ultrasound and say, surely the ultrasound tech won't know. I do know. I do know that you've eaten because your gallbladder looks like this. Looks like shit in there. I can't evaluate what I can't see. Don't bring me this. Don't bring me this.
