The more stuff I got rid of, the easier it became to save money. I know that some people hold on to stuff for years that they're not using because they're like, you know what, I paid for this stuff. You know, this is my hard-earned money. So no, I'm not going to get rid of it. And I completely understand that mindset because that used to be my thought process. But thinking back to my first real decluttering project that I did in the house, seeing things that I had purchased over the years in a bag, either going to the garbage or in a box going to a donation center or maybe somewhere else because I was going to try and sell it. Seeing all these items, things that I had purchased over the years, and a lot of it being stuff that I had only used maybe a few times, some of the things I had never used. I had clothes that still had tags on them because I bought it, brought it home, realized it wasn't really working, and for whatever reason, just forgot to return it. Just looking at all of this stuff that I had spent money on over the years just sitting there, that was eye-opening. Everything that sits in our home is money that could have been in our savings account. It's money that could have been invested. It's money that could have gone towards experiences. And I say all that to say, looking at all the stuff that I had that I was getting rid of and mentally calculating the value and how much money I spent on this stuff, stuff that I didn't even care about anymore. Yeah, that was the reality check that I needed and it really had me rethink my shopping habits.
