I never thought I would say this, but I did.

I never thought I would say this, but I did. I got dropped off in cake pop drama. And that is a sentence I never thought I would say, but I did. If you are not familiar with this story, I am going to try to break it down really quick. So this creator is where I was dropped off at. She is very upset stating that she is about to be sued by a large content creator who makes cake pops. This woman has just recently started a cake pop, you know, just hobby within the last couple of weeks and she saw a fruity pebble cake pop that she decided to make herself. The video she posted I believe has been deleted, but it was very similar to this where she is mixing fruity pebbles in it and she actually tags the big creator, which is Cake by Kaity. Now Cake by Kaity apparently had shown that she was doing some kind of fruity pebble cake pop and because Sweet Treats by Ashely had seen a video previously where Kaity explains kind of like a basic cake pop and what she uses, Ashely decided, okay, well I have those ingredients so I know I can make them. Where this all took a turn was when she created a video sharing what ingredients she used. Kaity said that she was copyrighting something from a cookbook. Now that is where this video comes in. She is crying saying I cannot believe that this is happened. You are upset that I am making something that I created on my own. I did not buy your cookbook. I do not have that exact recipe. I just decided to kind of mock what you have shown people willingly and those ingredients happen to be what I had and what make up this recipe for the fruity pebbles cake pops. Now as you can see, she got a ton of attention and so many people were on her side. Stating that it is a little weird that she would get upset about cake pops that she is willingly shown recipes and how to make them and all this woman did was use the very thing that she has put out and implement those new ingredients. She says she has never purchased any of her cookbooks or anything. Kaity is saying that she copyrighted her recipe. Apparently Kaity made a story about her, was demanding that she take this video down. She does say in this video, I did take that video down. But what the heck? Why are you coming after me like this? Mind you, she has about 56,000 followers and Cake by Kaity has like over 700,000 followers. All of these comments are stating that she is in the right because she did not do anything wrong. Someone says this recipe? The same one she shares ratios of publicly? That is insane. And Sweet Treats by Ashely says, yes this one is the exact one I used. So she just confirms that this is how I got the recipe. Other commenters saying, girl, she literally makes videos showing people and telling them how to do shit. Do not let this phase you. I am a beginner cottage baker and yes I still give my recipes and stuff to other bigger cottage bakers. We support one another. I have my own recipes but it is a mixture of what we have learned, what I have seen, and my grandma. Then she states that she did give credit to who she was inspired by. Now the comments are crazy because she has so many. She has very big accounts such as Snooki who is on her side and I really believe that that is what ultimately sent Kaity to make this video. She goes on to share that this book, this online book is copyrighted. And so she has every right to go after people who are using her copyrighted work. Like I stated, Ashely says, I did not buy it. She was not even able to verify if she did or did not. Then she goes on this long tangent in this video about how she has every right to do so and you know, she meant no harm by it but she demanded that she take it down and she had not heard from her so she made a story and then finally when Ashely took it down is when she took it down. Now I find it interesting because she says let is talk in this video, but she turned the comments off and just really wanted to talk herself. This was actually made just a couple hours after Ashely received so many supportive comments. So do I believe that Kaity did this as damage control? I do. And honestly I think the general consensus is don't share anything if you don't want people using the materials that you are putting out there and kind of coming up with a mock recipe. If Ashely says she didn't buy it and there is a way for Kaity to verify it, she would then know that she didn't copyright her work. She used recipes that you have shared publicly and was able to figure out the recipe herself. Now Kaity states of course she is not going to sue Ashely at this point and really she just gets to move on and utilize lawyers and suing someone if she sees it happening again. Now of course she has every right to her own work, but I do find it odd that this wasn't really a true apology to Ashely as a misunderstanding but rather like an oopsies, oh well, let is move on.
