3PL vs Warehouse 3 reasons we're moving

This is why I'm moving to a 3PL. After being in a warehouse for four years. I'm the founder of two companies, we're based in Chicago, and this is going to be a big change. But I'm going to tell you why we're making the change right now. Reason number one is that at our own warehouse, we have to manage all the staff, all the workers, compensation, and make sure that we have people when we need them. Surprisingly, this is a lot harder than you think it is, especially when you don't need someone full time, but you do need someone there three days a week. Of course, with the 3PL, this isn't a problem because they have full-time staff in their warehouse all the time. The second reason is that we didn't have any systems at our warehouse. When we got a big shipment like this in, we wouldn't even count it all. We didn't have a system for quality control. We kinda just relabeled it, and shipped it out. And of course, for years, so this has worked. A 3PL has a system for everything, which is the type of due diligence that I want. Number three is honestly just cost. An 8,000 square foot warehouse for us cost us about $8,000 a month, plus needing to pay for all the people, having an operations manager, there's a lot of cost associated with it. Now at our new 3PL, we don't pay for rent, we don't pay for property taxes, there's a lot of these overhead costs that we won't have for only paying for the space when we're actually using it. Overall, I'm definitely gonna miss having our own warehouse and seeing the product every single day, but we've outgrown it and we're ready to move on.
