Why do I live in Alabama?

I get asked from time to time why an Australian ended up living in Alabama, so I thought I’d share the story! Life has a way of taking you places you never expected. I never imagined Alabama would become home, but I’m so grateful it did! Sweet Home Alabama! I was actually living in Washington State for 11 years. I had a bit of change in my life circumstances and at about the same time I had a friend up there who was originally from Alabama and she decided to move back home to Dothan to be closer to her family. Bought a house and said, got a spare bedroom, come visit as long as you want. So at about this time, I ended up buying a little teardrop camper because I had a cat and I was taking my cat with me and I couldn't leave her in the car if I went to explore anything. So I ended up buying this little camper van that had air conditioning. So I set off on a little road trip. I had never towed anything before in my life and I stopped in like California, Arizona, Oklahoma and I just sort of was looking where I'd wanna live and it probably took me like a good couple of months. I finally made it to the South, got to Alabama and just fell in love with it. It's like the closest I've felt to Australia. Like the people are friendly, they're welcoming, they're laid back, they're easy going and everyone loves a good hug, which is just like, it's very much like Australia. Looking around for a house and I sort of had in my heart that I might end up in Georgia in some cute little fried green tomato town. But long story short, I'm about 25 minutes north of Dothan. I found this beautiful house. It was just being built and I've got a cotton field, which I think might be a peanut field at the moment out the back of me, a peanut field at the front. And I just love my little bubble out here. It's amazing. I love living in Alabama. Love everything about it. And I couldn't imagine leaving. So that's the short or the long answer of how I ended up living in Alabama.
