I transferred to the University of Alabama coming in my junior year and people always ask me culture shocks that I had after transferring to Alabama and one that I have to say that is absolutely crazy to me is the entirety of formals. So I'm sure most of you have heard of Nola, it's whenever frats have a formal and then they invite you and y'all just drive all the way down to New Orleans. The concept of that was absolutely mind-blowing to me because at my old university, their formals were like maybe 30 minutes away. Two hours was like risky. The fact that we drive from Tuscaloosa all the way to New Orleans and you just go for like three days is crazy to me. Pop on a bus and drive down there. I went to Nola and we just drove down separately like in a truck, which I'm so glad I did because the horror stories that I've heard on those Nola buses are actually crazy. So shocking to me that you literally cross state lines, hours long drive, and then you stay there for like an entire weekend. A lot of the frats have the formal on the same weekend, so you go down there and then three other Alabama frats or there and even other schools. The higher concept of Nola is just kind of crazy.
