Blood Falls is a striking, crimson-colored outflow of saltwater that flows from the tongue of Taylor Glacier into West Lake Bonney in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of East Antarctica. The dramatic red hue is caused by iron-rich saltwater escaping from a subglacial lake. When the iron encounters the oxygenated air, it oxidizes (rusts), creating a stark contrast against the white glacier making it look like it is bleeding. #facts #corecore #geography #core #winter
