I moved to San Francisco to build liquid cooling hardware and now I'm watching this city slowly turn into a place where only one kind of person can afford to live. The New York Times just published a piece and it confirms what everyone here has been quietly feeling. A whole wave of new AI millionaires is surfacing and they're already reshaping who gets to live in this city. AI engineer two desks down for me and my we work is making three times what most of us are. Same building, completely different paycheck. And the price is here have lost all common sense. A salary cost $25 coffee can hit eight. SF is one of the most expensive cities in America right now, nearly double the national average. And somehow, this is the floor. The whole city is being repriced around a tiny group of people who've already won. The city itself is quietly splitting in half. One group is building the future on a private chef and a million dollar paycheck. The other is making the coffee, designing the apps, writing the code, teaching the kids, fixing the lights, and watching their own city slowly become a place where they can barely afford to walk through.
