Japanese Beetles are an invasive pest in North America and they chew on plant tissue. When they start chewing there is a pheromone emitted that attracts other beetles to that plant. So mark your calendar so that every year you remember to go out and start inspecting when they show up near you, knock the Beetles into soapy, water, and remove the chewed tissue.
