There was a stretch in my marriage where my wife and I felt like roommates. Functional. Coordinated. Polite. Not connected. The intimacy — emotional and physical — had quietly drained out while we were both busy managing the house. She stopped initiating. Not because she stopped wanting me. Because you can't be someone's lover and their household manager at once. My ADHD pushed her into a caregiver role neither of us chose, and it made real intimacy almost impossible. Research backs this up: ADHD spouse burnout leads to distance — not because love left, but because exhaustion leaves no room for it. I was the reason. I was also the only one who could fix it. 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 [𝟭]: Get out of the parent-child dynamic. The moment she became my manager, our marriage became a parenting arrangement. Own your responsibilities without reminders. Follow through without being asked. Treat her like an equal, not someone managing your life. She can't want someone she feels like a parent to. 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 [𝟮]: Initiate before she has to. I stopped waiting for her to reach for me first. Now I do. Every day. A hug that lasts more than two seconds. Asking how she's really feeling, not how her day went. Closeness that asks for nothing back. When you initiate, she stops carrying the whole relationship's emotional weight alone. 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 [𝟯]: Make her feel chosen. Once a week, I do one specific thing that says "I chose you on purpose." Not grand — intentional. I remembered something she said and acted on it. I said the appreciation out loud instead of keeping it in my head. Being chosen is what intimacy is built on. It's a skill. Even an ADHD brain can learn it. 💾 Save this. Share it with your wife tonight. She didn't stop wanting you. She ran out of energy to reach for you while managing everything your ADHD left behind. These rules give her back the husband she married.
