You asked what she wants for dinner. She said she does not care. You suggested tacos, and she said no. You suggested pizza, and she made a face. Now you are both standing in the kitchen at 7:15, hungry and annoyed, and it feels like she is picking a fight over nothing. Here is what is actually happening. An open question like "What do you want?" asks her to generate an answer from scratch. For a lot of neurodivergent women, that is one of the most expensive things a brain can do, and she has been doing it since she woke up. What to wear, what to say in every email, which task to start first, how to answer every message. By evening the tank is empty. She can no longer build an answer. She can only react to one, so she rejects what you offer because rejecting is the only part her brain can still do. Two options turn building into choosing, which costs far less. Picking for her when she cannot choose takes the last decision off her plate, and "Are you sure?" puts it right back. She has been called picky and impossible her whole life. She was just out of decisions by dinnertime, every single day. The Neurodivergent's Guide to Leadership is in my bio. @officialkanecross #neurodivergent #decisionfatigue #adhd #adhdwomen #domsub
